Raul Malo believed in people and music. Magic and

Raul Malo believed in people and music. Magic and love. Family and friends. Oysters and caviar. Standing up for what was right. Laughter and not half ass-ing it. Hard work and getting high. Turning it up and getting quiet. Listening and shouting. The top shelf martini and the thrill of the ride. Helping out those less fortunate. Singing it from the heart. And on and on and on.

He believed in so many— just as he did in me. We met back in 2009 and were immediately connected through a common language and sensibility— music and laughter. We quickly became close and traveled all over the lot performing together. Coast to coast. Clubs, theaters, listening rooms, radio stations, truck stops, taco joints, fancy pants resturants, mini vans, hotels, motels, tour buses, trains, scooter, and a boat or two. I opened the shows and then listened and learned. He would graciously bring me out to join him on stage—every night. A thrill. Watching him work that magic every night. Never witnessed someone so naturally gifted. Ever.

I had the privilege of writing many songs with him and I am forever changed by knowing him. I made life long friends, met so many amazing people, and have been lifted up by his adoring fans. To say he changed my life is an understatement. I just loved being around Raul. Damn, I am really going to miss him.

My heart is with the Malo family and all of the Mavericks. They are like family. Thank you Betty, Dino, Max, Victor, Norma, Paul, Jerry, Mikey and Eddie for keeping me close through it all. Rauls spirit is free and flying now, and with us always. Rest easy my friend. I'll be singing ‘em for you, brother. Thank you for lighting this place up❤️✨

What a heart felt and soul stirring tribute to the one and only Raul Malo this weekend at the @theryman. Hard to articulate how powerful this experience was—Gratitude. Sadness. Joy. Togetherness. Pain. Music. Tears. And LOVE.
Every artist sang and played their hearts out for the maestro! What a honor to share in the music with everyone.
We love you Raul and we will keep singing ‘em for you my friend. Love and gratitude to the Mavericks, the Malo family and the fans for including me.💔🙏
